How are Counselling Sessions Organised?

I believe that flexibility is important and change can be achieved using a variety of different session formats.

Here are a few format examples below:

Counselling Sessions for Individuals or couples

Session Format: In general meetings are organised weekly, at the same time, on the same day – because this format is proven effective.

Flexible session: Some people use a fortnightly or other types of schedule, due to work flexibility or other reasons. Good improvement can be best achieved by using a regular attendance format.

Single Session: A session lasts 50 minutes.

Double Session: A double session lasts one hour and 50 minutes. For couples it can be really helpful to begin the work with a double session. This provides you both with more space and time to gain clarity and understanding on the issues you both feel are important whilst allowing for time to consider some strategies that can start you on the road towards the changes you each want.

What happens at my First Appointment?

The first meeting gives us an opportunity to explore whether working together will help you find solutions to tackle the challenge(s) you are facing and achieve what you want. During this meeting we will explore the issue(s) which made you seek this type of service and identify what a good therapy outcome would look like for you.

This meeting is also an opportunity for you to check out my style of working. Towards the end of the session we could discuss any practical aspects and you could ask any questions that you may have about the process.

How Many Counselling Sessions Will I need?

Because you will know when you have achieved the outcome you want, I tend to find that you are the best judge of how many sessions you will need. However, if you wish to set a finite number of sessions from the beginning, I could give you an idea of what can be achieved in different time periods. In addition we will review the work regularly.

When you understand all the factors that are contributing to your difficulties, you will feel more empowered to begin making the changes needed to improve your life.


We all learn to manage problems a particular way because that strategy has worked before. When it doesn’t work anymore, exploring alternative strategies is essential. During therapy sessions you will feel empowered to discover solutions that come from your innate inner wisdom because it holds some of the best solutions for you.


Ineffective or old habits die hard! Letting go of some old habits can be difficult, even when you want to. During therapy you will develop the tools you need to remove the roots of unhelpful habits for good, so your new strategies become the automatic, effective, action you need to create the life you want.


I understand that people want to overcome their problems as quickly as possible. Helping people achieve change is my passion. My integrated approach is what makes the difference. I draw on a range of therapeutic models, including CBT to help people fulfil their potential. I adopt a proactive approach, helping clients to move positively forward at a pace that they will engage with at a deep personal level.
